Thomas Joseph Salaz, of Portage, IN, passed away on September 11, 2025. He was born on December 16, 1959 in East Chicago, IN to Michael and Juanita Salaz.

Thomas graduated from Calumet High School. He continued his educational journey at Calumet College and received his bachelor’s of science in Biology. He then went to Indiana Wesleyan University and received his Master’s degree in Business Administration. Thomas worked many jobs throughout the years, some being at Montgomery Wards, Truck City of Gary, Solar Group, JX Peterbuild, and Great Lakes Peterbuild.

He is preceded in death by his father: Michael M. Salaz and his brother: Michael J. Salaz.

He is survived by his mother: Juanita Salaz, brother: Richard (Pattie) of Spencer, IN, their children: Suzanna Nevarez, Robert Jr., Brandon, and Luke; sister: Carol and Rick Dougherty of Seminole, FL; their children: Chris and Kara Brown of Austin, TX, Julianna, Peige, Hayler, and Shelby & Erin Jones of St. Petersburg, brother Michael (deceased) and Carol Salaz of Gary, IN; their children: Ashley Salaz of Lowell, IN, Abigail, Eva, Jude, Xander, Michael Salaz Jr. of Gary, IN, and Charlie & Samantha Salaz of Columbus, IN.

Thomas loved sports , taking photos, and keeping in contact with his friends and family. Whether it was through facebook, a phone call, or e-mail, he loved to chat.

A visitation for Thomas will be held on Friday September 26, 2025 from 10am-12pm with a funeral service at 12pm. All services will be held at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft Street, Merrillville, IN 46410. Interment will be held at Calumet Park Cemetery.
