Joyce “Maxine” Globke, 97, of Dyer (formerly Hammond), passed peacefully on April 5, 2025, at Great Lakes Nursing Centerin which she made her home since 2021.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ed Globke. She is survived by her family: Sister Maria Guiseppie, Kim Chendrean, David Burton, and Ashley, Zachary, and Joshua Fenes.

Joyce dedicated decades serving the children of the School City of Hammond and a lunch lady. She loved cats and was often found feeding strays and giving them a home.

Throughout life, she faced many trials and tribulations, but stayed loyal to her religion and her faith.

When Joyce was a young girl, she was a resident of the Carmelite Home in East Chicago, IN. It was there that she formed a lifelong bond with five other residence. Their friendships spanned over 70 years. She is preceded in death by her dear friends: Frannie, Millie, Jenny, Delores, and Bette.

Joyce loved spending time with her friends: Jose, Linda, and Pete. Her simple pleasures in life were a cold Corona and a crisp Coca-Cola.

The family would like to give a deep thanks and gratitude to Sister Maria Guiseppie, Father Jerry Schweitzer, Chaplin Rob from AseraCare Hospice, Father Leo at St. Maria Goretti, and the staff at Great Lakes and AseraCare Hospice for their loving care in her final days.
